Richard was having difficulty breathing, despite (or perhaps because of) the fact that he had his shirt up over his mouth and nose.
He coughed violently as he made his way through the smoke-filled forest, fighting off the horrible feeling that he was going the wrong way.

Rune hesitated, looking around herself worriedly as the smell of the smoke finally reached her. She gulped and took Cain's hand. "What about the kid?"

Cain held Rune's hand tightly as Silas began to walk forward. Cain pulled Rune along toward the cave entrance and David. "Come on, David. Take my hand. It'll be safer that way. We'll find your brother."

Cain, who now held the hands of Rune and David in each of his own, now had to rely on Silas' eyesight to guide them to safety. He pulled his charges along after him out of the cave.

The smoke was thick outside of the cave, although the source was nowhere in sight. "Rune... do you know of any high ground that we could head toward? We may be able to get above the smoke that way."

"Y-yeah. This path around the cave goes up," She coughed, holding her free arm over her mouth. Her eyes were watering from the smoke, making everything even harder to see.
"B-but, doesn't smoke, um, rise? Shouldn't we go down?"

David had a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach at the thought of being led by a crazy girl.
He wasn't sure why he had felt better being led by a blind man.

Rune rubbed the back of her head nervously. "Oh, I, uh, I dunno about that, Cain. I'm not really the leader type...But, um, we should probably go that way," she tilted her head to the right. "It starts to go down after a while and keeps going down until you reach the road."

David nodded to Cain, despite the fact that Silas was looking the the other direction.
"Norick!" he called through a cough. "Hey! Don't die! Norick!"

Richard's eyes were watering, but he could tell that the trees were thinning. Hopefully that would mean he was almost out of the woods, pun intended. The fire crackled loudly as he ran, and twigs snagged his clothing as he passed. Absurdly, he wondered how messed up his pants would be by the time he could stop running.

Silas pulled the group down the path. The smoke was irritating her eyes, making it hard for her to see where she was going. She knew she had to keep moving, but it was becoming harder for her to breath. Move faster, Cain! I can't take this much longer.

Cain nodded and quickened his pace.
